Think about the initial presentation Sam, George, and Rameck hear about the program at Seton Hall. What were some of the benefits of this program? What were some of the sacrifices they would have to make to participate? Have you ever heard of programs like that? Would you ever consider being a part of such a program?
The pre-medical/pre-dental program benefits for Sam, George, and Rameck was to give them an understanding in the field they were trying to go forth in. It would give them the incite on really fulfilling their dream. This program gave them the idea of going to college, and really letting them see how their lives will drastically change for them if they become apart of this program. The program was designed to make higher education possible for poor students who have the ability to succeed in college. The sacrifices they would have to make were to give up the street life and stay dedicated. If I didn’t read this book I would have never known about such a program but I would consider being apart of it.
ReplyDeleteThe benefits of the program were pre-medical/pre-dental programs for Sam, George, and Rameck. This was a chance for them to do the things they wanted to do in life. The sacrifices they would have to make were staying focused on that program and giving up partying and drinking or whatever they did before. I think I’ve heard of a type of program like this but I’m not really sure it’s the same program. I wouldn’t want to be in this type of program because this isn’t a type of career that I want.
ReplyDeleteThe Benefits of the initial presentation Sam, George, and Rameck heard about the program at Seton Hall were how it is able to give them the challenge that they need. Not only that, but it also leads them to doing the right thing. Other beneficial information is how the program provides money for tuition, housing, counseling, tutoring, assessment testing and more for the students. On page 71 George says, “I had no real plan. I knew I was going to college. That was it. But this program seemed to lay out all the steps for me.” This shows that it helped him be organized and realize that he was capable of becoming a doctor. The chance was right in front of him. One thing that they had to sacrifice was their time. They have to be committed to their studies and stay out of trouble. For instance, focus on studying rather than hanging out with their neighborhood friends, getting in illegal trouble. I haven’t heard of programs like this but I would love to be a part of one.
ReplyDeleteThe benefits of the initial presentation Sam, George, and Rameckis the pre-medical/pre-dental programs is a step in the right detraction for them in there dreams of being doctors. But also some sacrifices for them would also be that they would have to stop playing baseball and basketball after school to continue to attend this pre-medical/pre-dental program.I have never heard about any kind of programs along the lines of this program.I don't think I would be interested in taking any programs such as the pre-medical/pre-dental program.
ReplyDeleteThe pre-dental/pre-medical program was very beneficial for Sam, George, and Rameck. It was very beneficial because they got to go to a program that they didn’t have to pay for, and also because it helped them fulfill there dream. I think it was so beneficial because they had a lot of mandatory things that they had to do. For example they had to go to mandatory study hall for a certain amount of time. Another thing that was good is that they got to live on campus, and they didn’t have to travel back and forth. That’s why I think that the Seton Hall is very beneficial.
ReplyDeleteSome of the sacrifices they had to make while going to the pre-dental/ pre-medical program where very difficult. The sacrifices they made where they had to go away from there friends and family for a long time. I think that was difficult for them because they where so used to being with there family and friends and they where only going to see them on holidays, and not even summer. They weren’t going to see there family in the summer because they where taking classes in the summer to get into the medical and dental schools quicker.
No I have never really heard of a program like that. I think it is a great thing to have and that they should make a lot of programs like that. If there was a program like that in Philly I think I would look into the program because it id free and it lets you achieve your goal in life.
The program Sam, George and Rameck were offered gave them an Opportunity to train to be doctors and fulfilling their dream. Of Getting out of the hood and having a better life. One of the benefits is the program will pay for everything. One of the sacrifices is they can’t hanging out with their boys.
ReplyDeleteThe program that George , Sam , And Rameck were offered was called the Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Plus Program at Seton Hall . It was helps students that are likely to need help but succeed in college with housing , tuition , tests , and counseling . That means college for them will be free , but in order to get accepted into that program you had to met some qualifications . They were to have personal interviews , good high school test scores , teacher recommendations , and SAT test scores are looked at . I never heard of a program but if I ever were to be told about a program like that I would attend because my dreams will come true with help .
